Conwy Notice to Mariners 06/2021

Local Notice to Mariners 03/2021 is hereby cancelled.

The wreck of the Nicola Faith has been recovered ashore along with any associated debris required by the MAIB. The crane barge has recovered its anchors this morning and is now clear of the site.

The Notice of Direction to Prohibit Access: MAIB DIRECTION No 2/2021 issued on 13 May is hereby revoked.

Conwy Notice to Mariners 05/2021

Survey planned for Sunday 6th June 2021

Mersey Guardian Coastal Survey Vessel will be grab sampling in Conwy Bay and Red Wharf Bay between 07:00 and 15:00

The sampling will involve sediment sampling for invertebrates using a 0.1m2 grab sampler, with associated sediment particle size at two sites in Conwy Bay and two sites in Red Wharf Bay. The sampling platform will be the survey vessel Mersey Guardian operated by the Environment Agency and Briggs Marine and Environmental Services Ltd crew.  At the sampling target stations, a 0.1m2 scientific grab sampler will be carefully deployed approximately 10 times (at each location) from the dedicated scientific survey vessel by trained and skilled staff/crew using a motorised winch.

Conwy Marina Notice to Mariners

Due to some minor issues experienced during the routine sill gate maintenance works, we have elected to keep the sill gate buoyant during this weekend given the inclement weather, and pending further investigations works and tests. An update will be provided to all in due course.

Traffic lights will remain on RED throughout the weekend. Please contact the marina office for clearance levels above the sill gate before accessing and/or egressing the marina.

Mariners are advised that a significant danger to navigation is believed to exist in the Swellies and possible the wider area both Northeast and Southwest given the anchor line may fail at any time. The wreck, which lies sunk in the position above, has been temporarily marked by means of two emergency wreck marking lighted buoys, as follows:-

North of the wreck, in position Latitude 53° 20.099’N., Longitude 003° 41.876’W.

Characteristics:
Pillar: Blue & Yellow Vertical Stripes: Yellow Upright Cross Topmark:
Alternating blue and yellow flashing light, where the blue and yellow 1 second
flashes are alternated with an interval of 0.5 seconds:

The word WRECK is exhibited Black on Yellow.


Position:
South of the wreck, in position Latitude 53° 19.938’N., Longitude 003° 41.876’W.

Characteristics:
