Regattas at sailing clubs along the Menai Strait have been going for over 200 years and span almost the whole history of yachting.
The current format includes nominally 12 participating clubs each hosting their own regatta for one day in an event that usually spans the first two weeks of August.
Each regatta has a race for each of the “one design” classes (mostly small keelboats like the Conway One Design, Fife, Mersey Mylne etc.) but also races for dinghies and cruisers under handicap rules. Trophies and prizes are awarded each day after the races. Each class including the handicap races has its own prize. Competitors can enter as many or as few regattas as they wish to suit their preferences.
Races start at Beaumaris at the beginning of the first week, there is then a much loved race from Beaumaris to Caernarvon, through the Swellies and under the bridges: The Race Through. There are then races at Caernarvon at the end of the first week and the fleets return to Beaumaris for the second week including the Round Puffin Race.
More information about the Regattas will be published by the organising committee closer to the time.
